Lucas Rocheleau is an artist living, working, painting and riding his bicycle in Atlanta, GA. He began painting in 2012 as a means to deal with the emotional trauma of his father going missing a few years prior but discovered that healing and introspection are always necessary, so he continues to paint. Lucas completed his BFA from Valdosta State University in the fall of 2015 with a focus on painting and drawing.
He describes his work as southern gothic pop art, as he uses his formative years in the Deep South as reference material to juxtapose with life in the city. He views painting as a meditation and tool for discovery; building up layers of paint and using whatever tools are necessary (fire included) to peel these layers back to create the composition. Oftentimes he blurs the lines between fine art, folk art, and illustration.
